Ukrainian poets’ anthology to be published in Croatia
10.06.2025
“Ukraine 2024. Voices and Images,” a new anthology of Ukrainian poetry, translated and compiled by Alla Tatarenko, will be published by a Croatian publishing house.
The collection includes poems by Viktoria Amelina, Maksym Kryvtsov, Yeva Tur, Fedir Rudy, Iryna Starovoyt, Yelyzaveta Zharikova, Yaryna Chornohuz, Iya Kiva, Julia Musakovska, and others. The publication was supported by PEN Croatia and poet-translator Tomica Bajsić.
“From within the inner barbed silence, I’ll share that Alla Tatarenko has compiled a new anthology of Ukrainian poetry in her Croatian translations, and Tomica Bajsić along with PEN Croatia supported her,” Kiva wrote.
According to her, the visual design of the publication was created by Kateryna Mikhalytsyna, and Yurko Kostyshyn provided photographs.
“Mikhalytsyna created an absolutely Celan-like cover for the anthology. When I look at it, I realize that those two trees are actually one: all of us, who somehow keep on living and simultaneously fall apart, and Kostyshyn (also known as Kit Kharakternyk) provided his photographs for the anthology, each of which speaks of his ‘thank you for existing’ and presence,” Kiva wrote.
“The images inside the book are photos by Kharakternyk, and this brings me joy. A drawing of mine became the cover — and to me, being in such company, it is an honor,” Mikhalitsyna commented. “I am deeply grateful to everyone involved, but above all to Tatarenko and Bajsić for this uninterrupted and meaningful connection between cultures.”
